An Operating System is the software which interacts with the hardware of a computer system and works as the intermediary between apps and the hardware, including peripheral devices such as a printer, a mouse or a keyboard. When you run an app, it sends requests to the OS using an API (Application Program Interface) and the interaction is done via a command line or a Graphical User Interface (GUI). Just like a personal computer, web hosting servers also feature an Operating System that acts as a host for all of the software installed on them, including script apps or server-side software such as a flash server, a VOIP server, and so on. A virtual machine can be set up on a physical one, so it is possible to install a guest OS on it and have a different system environment in contrast to the physical server host OS.

Multiple OS in Dedicated Servers Hosting

We offer three Operating Systems with our dedicated server packages - CentOS, Ubuntu and Debian. They're all different Linux distributions and we offer them not only because they're totally free so they will not increase the low price of your new web server, but also because they are exceptionally stable and secure. Each one of them is backed up by a large community of developers, so you'll be given the option to choose from a myriad of software packages that you can install on your server if the application that you intend to use has specific requirements. The Operating System will also determine what internet hosting Control Panel you can use because the Control Panels that we offer are compatible with specific OSs only and because we want to provide you with as much freedom as possible, we offer several OSs and multiple Control Panels. If you choose a server with a given OS, we can change it upon request in case it turns out that you need alternative one. We will also keep your OS updated weekly as part of our optional Managed Services upgrade.
